The location of India’s major wildlife region ‘Periyar National Park’ Thekkady is a lovely landscape that offers plentiful wildlife viewing and adventurous trekking opportunities.
One of the largest wildlife reserves Periyar National Park exhibits a raw charm where dense evergreen forest is further beautified with an artificial lake, formed by the Mullapperiyar Dam across the River Periyar. Boating in the lake gives enjoyable views of wildlife especially the glimpses of elephant herds that come down to play in the lake. Other than the gentle jumbos the National Park shelters Sambar Deers, Gaurs, Lion tailed Macaques, Nilgiri Langurs, Tigers, etc. Furthermore Thekkady’s hills consist of hidden trekking routes that excite adventure lovers. Thekkady is also a resource centre for native spices: black pepper, cardamom, cinnamon & clove.
